Privacy and storage
What NetPhysics receives, what stays in your browser, and how private research contributions are handled.
This notice describes the standalone NetPhysics website release dated October 18, 2026. Privacy questions and correction or deletion requests can be sent to chris@maxwellx.com.
Reading and using the tools
This release contains no advertising or analytics service. The hosting provider may process technical information such as IP addresses, request times, browser information and requested URLs in access, error and security logs. Hosting and email providers may also maintain their own operational records and backups.
Calculator and model inputs are processed on your device. The supplied tools do not send those inputs to NetPhysics. Information leaves your device if you choose to send it through the contribution form, email it, share it through another service or open an external link.
Browser storage and the form cookie
Saved reading-list choices use your browser's local storage under the key hill-reading-list. They stay on that browser until you change the list or clear that site's storage. The list is not sent to NetPhysics by the supplied code.
The contribution form uses the hill_contribution session cookie to associate the form with a security token and a temporary submission reference. It is marked Secure, HttpOnly and SameSite=Strict. The cookie is session-scoped. Server-side session data is configured with a two-hour lifetime, but deletion timing depends on the hosting environment's session cleanup; this is not a guarantee of removal exactly two hours later.
What a contribution sends
The form emails the name, email address, title, contribution type, selected claim, contribution text, source links, limitations and review consent you provide to chris@maxwellx.com. It includes a generated reference and receipt time. Your email address is used as the reply address. The configured sender is noreply@netphysics.com.
The form accepts text and links, not file attachments. It does not create an account, a public posting or an online review inbox. We use the message to assess the contribution, communicate about it and keep an appropriate record of the review. Sending a contribution does not subscribe you to marketing email.
Security and abuse prevention
The application keeps a keyed hash derived from the connecting IP address, together with attempt timestamps, in private server storage for rate limiting. That rate-limit file does not contain message text or email addresses. The hash remains an abuse-prevention identifier; we do not describe it as anonymous.
The limiter disregards events older than 24 hours when checking subsequent attempts and removes expired entries when it next saves its state. Without a later save or separate host cleanup, older entries can remain stored. The host and email service may keep separate logs. No internet service or email system can promise absolute security.
Private review and publication choices
The submission is intended for private review by the project operator, with hosting and email services involved in transmission and storage. Do not send trade secrets, sensitive personal information, unpublished material you must keep confidential, or other people's private records. The form does not establish an NDA.
Your submission is not automatically published. Publishing your contribution or identifying you as its contributor requires separate permission. If proposed public text is discussed, you should have an opportunity to review the material and attribution before publication.
Retention and your requests
Messages received by email are currently managed in the recipient's mailbox. The website has no automatic mailbox deletion schedule. Retention should be limited to what is needed for review, correspondence, research-integrity records and applicable obligations. Hosting and email backups may have different retention periods.
To request access, correction or deletion, email chris@maxwellx.com and provide the contribution reference or enough detail to locate the message. We may need to verify that the request is yours. Legal retention requirements, an active dispute or an already authorized public research record may affect what can be removed; any relevant limitation should be explained. This notice does not limit privacy rights available under applicable law.
External catalogues and updates
Literature searches create links to external catalogues such as Crossref and OpenAlex. The catalogue receives the query and ordinary connection information when you choose to open its link, and its own privacy terms apply. Links to other project websites are external links as well.
If tracking, accounts, payments, newsletters, uploads or other new processing are added, this notice and the relevant controls must be updated before those features are enabled.
